They'll Destroy Your Stuff! Better to Get a PODS Container.
These guys were supposed to dismantle my furniture at pickup and reassemble at the destination. They refused to do so stating that it was unnecessary, even though I had paid for it.
When they arrived at the dropoff location, I was shocked as I watched them unload my severely damaged furniture. My $400 coffee table's legs were barely hanging on. The drawers for my dresser completely smashed in. My LIKE NEW mattress was covered in dirt from being dragged on the floor, and had multiple tears and rips. All they could say to me was, "Don't worry, insurance will cover it."
After all that, they had the nerve to ask me for a tip! Unbelievable! I'm never using movers again. After paying ~$1700, I never imagined that it would have been better if I had just moved the stuff myself.
Use at your own peril - Two companies are involved in this one.
This company was subbed by the company I originally hired to do the job. They also go by Simplified Moving Solutions. I had already paid the original company in full, then these guys walk in eyeball what we have and tell us we didn't pay enough. They demanded another $2600 before they would touch anything. What could we do? It was moving day. The move was from FL to WV. We watched them drop our sofa in the front yard. It has a back that folds down and they broke the hinge. My wifes' cousin met the movers at our new house. He was not aware they were supposed to reassemble our furniture, so they didn't. They just threw everything in haphazardly and took off. Two of our dining room chairs never made it, along with some lawn ornaments that had belonged to my mother and cannot be replaced. They lost the brackets that hold the wooden slates in place on our platform bed. They destroyed a wooden trunk. The entire front came off. They demolished the side of a tall kitchen cabinet we had only recently purchased, plus two of the knobs are missing An entire box of glassware never made it. Some of my wifes' heirlooms were broken. They ripped the lining on an ottoman and the leather on the rails of our bed. I could continue but just know a lot more got destroyed. After fighting with both the moving companies, Long Distance Movers would accept no responsibility even though they lied about not brokering the deal. I submitted pictures of all the damage along with a detailed listing. The guy at Simplified Solutions said he would submit the claim for me to his insurance company. There was $4000 in damages. Here is where it gets weird. The owner emailed me to say he had heard the insurance company had reached their decision but he had no idea how much it would be. I used to be in insurance. Today, I received a handwritten money order for $140. It came in a handwritten envelope and was almost illegible. Insurance companies DO NOT work like this. I have filed additional complaints today but it's sad this industry doesn't really seem to care. We are at their mercy with companies like this. I have since spoken with another individual who is experiencing a similar scenario with Ross Allied Trucking. Back to the insurance. It appears as though they never submitted anything. Insurance companies keep detailed records and they do not go to a bank and purchase money orders. They are also professional enough to not scribble on an envelope. It makes me wonder if this company even has insurance. They either do not, or it was so much they did not want to file it. I wrote the man today and told him I need the full name of his insurance company and the representative. All it said was Moving HHGG and it gave an address in an executive park in Gastonia, NC. It appears they don't exist. I did some research. There's more to the nightmare but you've heard enough to know not to use either company. By the way, the driver saw I am a veteran, I served 14 years. He told me he was one too, right before he solicited a tip. Stolen valor? I wouldn't doubt it. His name is Wayne. One more thing. We never received any paperwork at all. I've asked them to mail it to me three times and they keep promising they will. How suspicious is that? On a lighter note. My wife is petite. We found three pairs of size 2X women's panties in a dresser drawer. Splain' that, Lucy?
